mother's day

Years ago my mom was talking about market trends with my father and she said “people are investing in experiences now, not things”. Ummm, can you say psychic??? She called it before we even realized we were doing it. I’m going to hate myself for saying it this way, but we “younger generation” (Millennials, Gen-X, Gen-Z, Gen-whateverthefuckyouwanttobe) rather do than have.

I only started to realize that I was following this trend once I started living in the city. I noticed I rather spend time with people I love than receive a physical something and the city has so many cool experiences to offer. With that in mind, I thought I would share some of the experiences I recently have gifted!

As we all know there are no two people in this world I love more than my parents. So surprise surprise these next couple posts are about them! These were my Mother’s Day and Father’s Day presents to mis padres this year! :)

My mom LOVES the musical Hamilton. Like, LOVES. Even though it’s been four years she is still not over it. And anyone who has ridden in my car knows that 99.9% of my music is the Hamilton soundtrack...thanks to my mother (yes, that means endless skipping). She used to always talk about wanting to go to the Hamilton house in NY, so finally we went! I sadly do not have any photos from the Hamilton Grange home because it was DOWN POURING and cold. But here is all the info if you ever want to visit, I recommend it. It’s an adorable home, go in the morning on a nice day because it’s all natural light (no electricity) so if you want to see all the detailing it’s best to go while the suns awake :) Just a fun fact the house has been picked up and moved twice in its lifetime. Yes, it’s exactly what you’re picturing...the whole house was literally picked up like the claw machine and moved to a different location...twice. Once by horses and the second by engineers. Regardless, check it out, relive history, and have your mind blown. It is insane how much Eliza Hamilton loved her husband--she preserved everything of his so that his name would be remembered. AND there's a bust of Alexander Hamilton in the house and she placed it on a pedestal so that it would stand at his height and she would talk to him/stare longingly at him. How cute.

Now onto the more picturesque portion of our day. (It was indoors so there is photo evidence we went)

My mom also loves the movie "Crazy Rich Asians" (can you blame her). If you’ve seen the movie there’s one part where they highlight a famous flower, the Tan Hua (Queen of the Night). I had never been to the Botanical Gardens and my mom had not in a very long time, so basically she hadn't either. They were having an Orchid Show and it reminded me of the scene in Crazy Rich Asians. Unfortunately, we just missed the exhibit by one day. BUT we got tickets for their Mother's Day festivities! Just as beautiful, enjoy the aesthetic.

It was so beautiful! The main indoor portion was not open because it's under construction, but that's the famous cylindrical space people usually have weddings in. We definitely have to go back because there is so much still to cover! The outdoors grounds are probably even more wonderful, but I did not pay much attention to them the first time around as I was too busy hiding from the rain :)

But now we've got memories of running in the rain, learning about Alexander Hamilton, and a plan for another mother/daughter outing--that's better than any physical gift <3

Check out the Botanical Gardens here

And be sure to check out my other post on what my dad and I did for Father’s Day!
